Schwaab, Eugene L. (ed). TRAVELS IN THE OLD SOUTH Selected from Periodicals of the Times Edited by Eugene L. Scwaab with the collaboration of Jacqueline Bull. [Lexington}: University Press of Kentucky, [1973]. 2 volumes with continuous pagination (579 pages total) illustrations. Oblong octavos. 22 x 28 cm. First edition.

Original pictorial paper covered boards with cloth spines. A near fine set. Housed in the original publisher's slipcase which shows some light shelf wear.

This set has a presentation in ink from the editor: "To Cedric L. Robinson, whose professional scholarship in American history remains bright in my mind and memory, although recollections of the numerous business transactions we have had over the years has become dim (and my hand unsteady). Sincerely, Gene Schwaab".

Near this presentation is a notation in pencil: "Not a g4t but a purchase - C L Robinson."

This set was later owned by another bookseller, C. R. Sanders, Jr., and bears his small bookplate. A nice double association copy of this informative anthology.

"This anthology aims to present to the social historian a representative sampling of original accounts of travel in the South from 1783 to 1860, printed in magazines published within the territorial United States." - Intro.
