Thomas, Lowell. Old Gimlet Eye: The Adventures of Smedley D. Butler. New York: Farrar & Rinehart, [1933]. 4 preliminary leaves, 310 pages, frontispiece and seven full page plates. There are numerous other pen and ink illustrations in the text making this a fun read. Illustrated by Paul Brown.

Early printing, but not a first edition. The small Farrar & Rinehart oval colophon does not appear above the copyright line. Original blue cloth; spine sunned, a few small spots on the front board. A good to very good copy of this classic. The illustrated lining-papers are signed by the author and the legendary Marine himself, Old Gimlet eye, who signs: "S. D. Butler."

Smedley Darlington Butler was a United States Marine Corps major general, the highest rank authorized at that time, and at the time of his death the most decorated Marine in U.S. history.
