"In 1944, Julien Chandler Yonge of Pensacola, Florida, presented his extensive collection of Floridiana to the University of Florida as a memorial to his father, Philip Keyes Yonge.

The Yonge Library was the result of fifty years of careful and painstaking collection on the part of Julien C. Yonge and P. K. Yonge. The collection consisted of books, pamphlets, Federal and state documents, manuscripts, maps, and newspapers.

When the University announced the acquisition of the Yonge collection, it was called 'the finest, most complete collection of Floridiana yet assembled.' The P. K. Yonge Library of Florida History is today a collection of Floridiana spanning five centuries of the state's history.

The collection is made available to all persons interested in the history of Florida. Since the original gift, with the support of the University of Florida, the Yonge Library has become the largest collection of Floridiana known to exist." - Introduction.
