First edition. Original cloth. A near fine copy. This history of the 272 Infantry regiment was printed and distributed in Germany at war's end. The German firm responsible had been in the business since 1834. The printing, paper quality, and binding are all superb. The text is quite informative and the work is loaded with period photographs. A rare regimental. OCLC 72210792 locates one copy.

Inscription on last blank leaf shows why this, the second known copy, survived. It reads: "Dear Dad and folks: Well heres a little something different for a change. It is a pretty good story of the outfit. Hope you like it. Love, Jack. P.S. Save this and I'll be able to tell you a lot more when I get home soon. I hear you all had a big V E Day back home." Covers actions in New Guinea and the Philippines. A most interesting and rare U. S. Army Special Engineer assault unit photo book.

First edition. Original stiff printed wrappers. A very good copy. Foreword by Dwight D. Eisenhower, then Chief of Staff. The Pacific Theatre combat account of the United States Army 27th Division, 5th Amphibious Corps, and 7th Air Force, and the battle and capture of Makin Island. The first full- scale effort to recover some of the Japanese strongholds in the Central Pacific was the expedition to the Gilbert Islands in November, 1943. The Capture of Makin narrates the Army's part of the campaign, which was a prelude to later advance to the Marshall Islands. The two maps affixed to inside rear cover are in fine condition and titled Attack From the Lagoon, 20 November, 1943, and Main Defensive Area of Butaritari.
