165. PREVIOUSLY UNRECORDED U.S.S. Nebraska. U.S.S. NEBRASKA STATION BILLS AND INTERIOR REGULATIONS.
np, 1908. 50 pp.

First edition. Original printed wrappers, slightly soiled. A very good copy formerly owned and signed by sailor Alfred B. Roth of New Haven, Connecticut. Roth has also made some pencil notations in the text. A rare glimpse into daily life aboard this WWI era battleship. The USS Nebraska was a 14,948-ton Virginia class battleship built at Seattle, Washington; the last U.S. Navy battleship to be built by a West Coast shipyard for over a decade. It saw duty in World War I and was part of the legendary "Great White Fleet." This United States Navy battle fleet, consisting of four squadrons of four battleships each along with with their escorts, completed a circumnavigation of the globe from 1907-1909, per order of President Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt sought to demonstrate growing American military might and blue-water navy capability prior to World War I. The historic fourteen- month long voyage was the first large scale demonstration of American sea power.
