The proposed line would have run from Hannibal to Kansas City, crossing the Missouri River at Arrow Rock.

First separate edition. Reprinted from the Yale Review Vol. XV, No. 3, November, 1906. Original printed wrappers. A very scarce author's offprint. The Western and Atlantic Railroad was founded on December 21, 1836 as the Western and Atlantic Railroad of the State of Georgia. The line still runs from Atlanta to Chattanooga, and is leased by CSX Transportation. The line was made famous because of the Andrews Raid (commonly referred to as the Great Locomotive Chase), which took place on the W&A during the Civil War on the morning of April 12, 1862.
