First separate edition. A scarce author's offprint from the Florida Historical Society Quarterly, Vol. XV, No. 1, 1936. Original printed wrappers. A very good copy. The fort, composed of successive wooden and masonry fortifications, was occupied throughout the Spanish and British colonial periods, and by U.S. troops during the Second Seminole War. Capture of the Spanish fort by Andrew Jackson in 1818 was instrumental in events leading to the American acquisition of Florida in 1821.

First edition. Original dark maroon cloth, discolored (lightened) at both front board corners. A good copy. A tough book to locate in great condition. This is a well regarded history of the British rule in West Florida. Includes and ends with Andrew Jackson's successful invasion of 1818.

First edition. 27th Congress, 2d Session. Ho. of Reps. Doc. No. 220. Original self-wraps, removed from bound volume, minor scattered foxing. A very good copy. Referred to the Committe on Naval Affairs. Transmits: "A copy of the report of Lieutenant L. M. Powell, of the survey of the coast of the Gulf of Mexico" together with Powell's suggestions "the defensive means best adapted to the local features of this section of the country." A scarce and important work. Powell became lieutenant in 1826, fought in several engagements against the Seminole Indians in 1836-'7, and was wounded on Jupiter River in 1838.

First separate edition. A scarce offprint from the Journal Military Service Institution. Original printed wrappers lacking, small blindstamp of the Newburyort Public Library. A very good copy. Details the early war history of Fort Jefferson, Dry Tortugas, Florida. Originally built in 1846, it was fortified in 1861-62 with 50 ft. walls and huge guns to protect the Gulf and Key West areas. This fort was retained by the Union throughout the war and used as a military and naval prison. Dr. Samual Mudd was sent there after being tried and convicted for complicity in the assassination of Lincoln. DORNBUSCH II, 1557. Not in NEVINS.
